Sony's New Compact Full-Frame Cameras and Lens: a7CR, a7C II and FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM II
Sony has recently announced three new products that will expand its compact full-frame line of cameras and lenses: the a7CR, a7C II, and FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM II. These products are designed to offer convenience, quality, and innovation for photographers and videographers who want to capture stunning images and videos in a small and lightweight package.
The a7CR: A High-Resolution Compact Full-Frame Camera
The a7CR is the world's smallest and lightest full-frame camera with a 61MP sensor. It is based on the same sensor and processing engine as the flagship a7R V, but in a smaller body that is similar to the a7C II. It offers unparalleled resolution and performance in a compact package. The a7CR has many features that make it an ideal camera for travel, portrait, and studio photography. Some of these features are:
- A 61MP Full-Frame Exmor R Back-Illuminated CMOS sensor that can capture stunning details and colors in any light condition.
- A BIONZ XR image processing engine that can deliver up to 15 stops of dynamic range, low noise, high speed, and accurate color reproduction.
- A fast and accurate autofocus system that uses AI technology to track and lock on subjects with speed and accuracy. It supports eye AF and real-time tracking for stills and movies.
- A Pixel Shift Multi shooting mode that can produce images with a 240.8MP count by combining 16 shots with pixel-shifted sensor data.
The a7CR also comes with an additional base-mounted extension handle that provides more grip and comfort for users who prefer a larger body or have large hands. The handle also has a 1/4"-20 thread for tripod mounting, while maintaining battery accessibility.
The a7CR is expected to start shipping on Thursday, October 12th, 2023. You can pre-order it from Omega Broadcast.
The a7C II: A Versatile Compact Full-Frame Camera
The a7C II is the successor of the popular a7C, which was launched in 2020 as the world's smallest and lightest full-frame camera at that time. The a7C II inherits the same compact body size as the a7C but with significant improvements in resolution, performance, and functionality. The a7C II has many features that make it a versatile camera for various shooting scenarios. Some of these features are:
- A 33MP Full-Frame Exmor R Back-Illuminated CMOS sensor that can capture high-resolution images with rich details and colors.
- A 4K video recording mode that can capture high-quality video at 60 frames per second with full pixel readout and no pixel binning. It also supports S-Log3, S-Gamut3.
The a7C II is expected to start shipping on Thursday, September 28th, 2023. You can pre-order it from Omega Broadcast.
The FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM II: A Compact Wide-Angle Zoom Lens
The FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM II is the second generation of Sony's flagship wide-angle zoom lens for full-frame cameras. It is the world's smallest and lightest full-frame F2.8 wide-angle zoom lens, making it ideal for travel, landscape, and portrait photography.
The FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM II has many features that make it a high-quality and high-performance lens. Some of these features are:
- A new optical design that uses five aspherical elements, including three XA (extreme aspherical) elements, that effectively control aberration and distortion across the entire zoom range
- A circular aperture with 11 blades creates a beautiful bokeh effect with smooth and natural transitions.
- A new Nano AR Coating II that reduces flare and ghosting for clear and contrasty images even in backlit situations.
- A fast and quiet autofocus system that uses four original XD Linear Motors and precise lens control. It also supports eye AF and real-time tracking for stills and movies.
The FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM II is expected to start shipping on Thursday, September 28th, 2023. You can pre-order it from Omega Broadcast.
