Kron Technologies has released Chronos 4K12 Software Version 1.8.0, delivering improvements to performance, stability, and usability—plus new capture resolutions and workflow enhancements.

  • New resolutions added (see table below).
  • A CSV sidecar file (Metadata.csv) can now be saved alongside footage containing camera configuration from the last recording.

Improvements & Fixes

  • Smaller H.264/H.265 files: Inter-frame compression is now used when saving H264/H265.
  • Device mode now works on all platforms.
  • Device mode refreshes file lists on hosts when files are changed by cameras.
  • Linux users must reopen the window manually to refresh file lists.
  • Windows hosts automatically refresh file windows when files change.
  • TIFF and DNG files now contain ISO in their metadata.
  • Fixed issue where TIFF files from 4K12 mono could not be opened in some programs (MatLab).
  • Fixed slow boot issue in Windows after NFS usage.
  • General stability improvements.
  • Fixed issue where applying unchanged values could round settings down in Record Settings and Record Modes.
  • Fixed issue where Stop button did not immediately switch back to Record when Auto Save was enabled.
  • Fixed HDMI display flickering.
  • Fixed HDMI unsupported error not appearing when monitors are unsupported.
  • Fixed minimum value issue for Record Length in seconds.
  • Fixed H.264 Maximum Quality preset Target Bits/Pixel incorrectly marked out-of-range.
  • Fixed record settings showing 0.00 when 0 is out-of-range.
  • Fixed DHCP switching delay of ~1 minute 30 seconds.
  • Fixed Trigger Delay graph requiring Reset twice.
  • Fixed SMB Apply button remaining disabled after failed test.
  • Fixed GUI disappearing when testing NFS after ethernet disconnect.
  • Corrected frame rate and exposure metadata in TIFF and DNG files.

GUI Changes

  • Added a checkbox for “Save Metadata.csv”.

How to Update the Chronos 4K12


Update Instructions

  1. Download the software update package from the links above.
  2. Install Raspberry Pi Imager from: https://www.raspberrypi.com/software/
  3. Power off the camera and remove the Service Door using a Phillips screwdriver.
  4. Eject the microSD card by pressing it inward.
  5. Insert the microSD card into your computer.
  6. Launch Raspberry Pi Imager.
  7. Select Choose OS → Use Custom.
  8. Select the downloaded software update file.
  9. Select the microSD card under Choose Storage.
  10. Click Next and select No for OS customization.
  11. Click Yes to begin writing the update. The process may take 15–30 minutes.
  12. Once complete, reinsert the microSD card into the camera.
  13. Reconnect power and start the camera.
  14. Verify the software version reads 1.8.0 in System Settings → About.
