Sony BURANO: A Compact and Versatile 8K Cinema Camera with IBIS and Autofocus

BURANOThe BURANO is a compact, lightweight, and versatile camera that offers stunning 8K image quality, in-body image stabilization, and various output options. In this blog post, we will take a closer look at the features and specifications of the BURANO and how it can benefit filmmakers of different genres and styles.

The BURANO is designed to be a more affordable and accessible alternative to Sony's VENICE 2 camera. The newcomer features a new large 3.6 x 2.4 cm full-frame image sensor that can record 8K footage at up to 30 fps and 8.2K footage at up to 60 fps. The sensor also supports multiple image scan modes, including full-frame, Super35, and cropped modes, as well as high-speed modes such as 6K 60p, 5.8K 60p, and 4K 120p. The camera has a wide latitude of 16 stops, which means it can capture beautiful, low-noise images under almost any lighting conditions. The camera also has a wide color gamut and a warm color balance that enhances skin tones.

One of the most innovative features of the BURANO is its in-body image stabilization (IBIS) system, which is the world's first for a digital cinema camera with a PL mount. The IBIS system combines Sony's unique electronic variable ND filter system with a mechanical stabilization unit that compensates for camera shake in five axes. This feature allows filmmakers to shoot handheld or on a gimbal without compromising image quality or stability. The IBIS system also works with both PL and E-mount lenses, giving users more flexibility and choice in lens selection.

BURANO SIDE PROFILE

Another feature that makes the BURANO stand out is its autofocus system, which uses dual-pixel technology and artificial intelligence to achieve fast and accurate focusing. The autofocus system supports face detection and tracking, as well as subject recognition, which can identify and track objects such as cars or animals. The autofocus system also works with both PL and E-mount lenses, as long as they support Cooke /i or Zeiss extended Data communication protocol. The camera also has a dual-pixel focus guide that assists manual focusing by displaying the focus position and depth of field on the monitor.

The BURANO is also designed to be user-friendly and adaptable to different shooting scenarios. The camera has a multi-purpose touchscreen LCD monitor that can be mounted on various positions on the camera body or on an external arm. The monitor can display various information and settings, as well as control the camera functions via touch gestures. The camera also has a versatile and robust handle that can be attached to the top or side of the camera body, or removed entirely. The handle has several assignable buttons and dials that can be customized according to the user's preference.

The BURANO has multiple output options, including 12G-SDI, HDMI, and Ethernet ports. The camera supports various protocols, such as Canon XC2, RTMP/RTMPS and RTP/RTSP, NDI|HX4 and SRT5, making it compatible with different platforms and devices. The camera also supports wireless connectivity via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, as well as remote control via Sony's Camera Remote app. The camera records on CFexpress Type B cards or SD cards, depending on the recording format and resolution.

The BURANO is a powerful and versatile digital cinema camera that can meet the needs of professional filmmakers who demand high performance, reliability, and versatility.
