The V-RAPTOR [X] 8K VV Camera combines the proven design of RED’s V-RAPTOR line with the advanced global shutter technology from the KOMODO. As RED’s newest DSMC3 flagship, it introduces the industry’s first large-format global shutter camera and brings the new Global Vision toolkit, offering exceptional dynamic range and creative flexibility. With 8K capture, excellent low-light capabilities, and high-speed frame rates in a lightweight 4 lb body, the V-RAPTOR [X] is a versatile, all-in-one solution for modern productions.

New Large-Format Standard

This camera sets a new benchmark as the first of its kind to deliver both a large-format global shutter and RED Global Vision tools. It maintains many hallmark features of the V-RAPTOR line, including a locking Canon RF mount, a single CFexpress Type B slot supporting up to 8K120, and dual 12G-SDI outputs. Improvements include a redesigned sensor cavity for better contrast and reduced stray light, as well as upgraded audio preamps.

Advanced, Intelligent Focus

Enhanced on-sensor phase detection combined with new face detection technology ensures reliable, automatic focusing for filmmakers at any skill level.

Global Shutter

The global shutter captures fast-moving action without distortion, eliminating rolling shutter artifacts such as skew or “jello” effects. Every flash, motion, and burst is reproduced cleanly with full fidelity and range.

RED Global Vision

The Global Vision suite takes advantage of the global shutter sensor to streamline workflow and improve creative control. Features like Extended Highlights provide up to three additional stops of range, preserving detail and color in bright highlights and enabling more refined HDR and SDR imagery.

Dynamic Range

Delivering over 17 stops of dynamic range in standard modes and up to 20+ stops with Extended Highlights, the V-RAPTOR [X] balances clean highlight roll-off with superior low-light performance.

Phantom Track

Phantom Track simplifies virtual production by recording unique R3D clips for each subframe slice using GhostFrame or frame remapping. It allows directors and performers to interact with green screen elements while VFX teams view clean frames simultaneously, or it can be used for dynamic ad overlays during live broadcasts.

High-Speed Recording

Creators can take advantage of frame rate options up to 8K120, 6K, 4K, and 2K for effects such as time-lapse, speed ramping, or extracting detailed stills.

Engineered for use with RED V-RAPTOR and KOMODO-X cameras, this 2TB CFexpress card supports capture across all formats from HD to 12K raw. With read/write speeds up to 1785 MB/s, it delivers stable high-bitrate recording, reduced power draw, and built-in overheating protection.

Durable Angelbird Construction

Manufactured by Angelbird, the card is protected against shock, water, dust, x-rays, and extreme temperatures. This dual charger powers two REDVOLT MICRO-V or XL-V batteries at a 3A rate. Compact yet efficient, it can charge two 98Wh batteries in under five hours and was developed in collaboration with Core SWX. Compatible with most V-Mount batteries.

RED DIGITAL CINEMA DSMC3 RED Touch 7.0" LCD with Rigid Hinge

A 7" onboard monitor designed for DSMC3 cameras, the RED Touch LCD offers 1920 x 1200 resolution, full DCI-P3 color, and 1800 cd/m² brightness for daylight viewing. Its rigid hinge system allows secure repositioning, while SmallHD PageOS provides waveform, vectorscope, histogram, and other monitoring tools. Connects via the Pogo mount or USB-C.

RED DIGITAL CINEMA EXT-to-Timecode Cable (3')

This 3' cable connects to the KOMODO’s 9-pin EXT port to provide timecode input, ensuring synchronization across multi-camera setups.
