The Roland V-1-4K Video Switcher is a compact, entry-level solution built for smaller productions such as houses of worship, educational environments, and corporate events. It offers five HDMI inputs with built-in scalers, five HDMI outputs, USB-A host connectivity, and a USB-C output for streaming. Supporting up to UHD 4K60 with HDR, the switcher allows high-quality image processing, including cropping and scaling, without sacrificing resolution. Physical controls like a fader, knobs, and dials provide hands-on operation for smooth live production control.
Scaling and Cropping Capabilities
Each of the five HDMI inputs includes its own scaler, making it easy to switch between HD and 4K HDR sources seamlessly. The five HDMI outputs include multiview functionality, allowing separate feeds to be sent to main displays, confidence monitors, or additional outputs without requiring extra distribution hardware.
The built-in ROI (region-of-interest) feature allows operators to crop multiple shots from a single 4K camera feed, reducing the need for additional cameras while expanding creative shot options. The V-1-4K Remote/RCS app simplifies this process with an intuitive interface for setting up crop areas.
Flexible Signal Routing
With five inputs and a total of six outputs—including HDMI and USB streaming—the V-1-4K offers versatile routing options for various production setups. Alongside standard program, preview, and multiview outputs, outputs three and four can be assigned to different buses and inputs using built-in 4K-to-HD downscaling.
Plug-and-Play Streaming
Streaming with the V-1-4K is straightforward thanks to its USB-C output, which functions like a standard webcam connection. Simply connect it to a computer and stream directly to platforms like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or other streaming services without additional setup.
Video Composition Tools
The switcher includes three composition layers, allowing users to enhance productions with picture-in-picture effects, titles, logos, and other graphics. These tools make it easier to create engaging visual content during live events.
PTZ Camera Integration
The V-1-4K supports control of PTZ cameras from brands like Canon, JVC, Panasonic, Sony, PTZOptics, and more using IP-based or VISCA protocols. Up to five PTZ cameras can be controlled simultaneously, and the V-1-4K Remote app for iPad enables convenient camera operation directly from a tablet.
Companion Software Tools
Roland provides several software options to extend functionality. Graphics Presenter allows users to design titles and motion graphics, while VenuSet offers customizable control layouts for easier operation. The V-1-4K RCS (macOS/Windows) and V-1-4K Remote (iPadOS) applications provide full remote control via LAN or USB.
Audio Mixing and Connectivity
The V-1-4K includes a 14-channel audio mixer with processing tools such as EQ and compression. Sync delay is available on all inputs and outputs to ensure proper audio-video alignment. Audio connectivity includes dual XLR inputs, RCA outputs, and a 3.5mm headphone jack, along with flexible routing options across main, monitor, and auxiliary buses.
Customizable Control Pads
Eight assignable control pads, organized into four banks, provide quick access to up to 32 functions. These can be used for switching inputs, muting audio, accessing system settings, and even controlling functions within Graphics Presenter when connected via USB.
