Canon Releases Powerful Cinema EOS Firmware Updates
December 2025 firmware updates deliver new recording modes, improved monitoring, and enhanced operational responsiveness across select Canon Cinema EOS cameras.
Canon continues to strengthen the Cinema EOS ecosystem with firmware updates designed to support modern production workflows. These updates focus on maximizing sensor usage, improving monitoring accuracy, and refining camera operability—helping creators work faster and more confidently on set.
Canon EOS C400 — New Full Frame 3:2 Open Gate Support
The EOS C400 receives a major workflow enhancement with support for a new Full Frame 3:2 “Open Gate” sensor mode, along with other usability and monitoring improvements.
- Full Frame 3:2 Sensor Mode (Open Gate)
- Ability to choose a User LUT during playback
- Improved AF frame joystick responsiveness
- Additional operational refinements
By selecting Full Frame 3:2 from the Sensor Mode menu, users can record using the full area of the sensor. This allows for greater flexibility in post-production—especially helpful when shooting with full-frame anamorphic lenses.

Canon EOS C70 — Enhanced View Assist & Low-Light Usability
The December 2025 firmware update for the EOS C70 focuses on improving playback monitoring and overall shooting confidence.

- Significantly improved focus peaking image clarity in low-light
With View Assist available in media playback, users can preview clips recorded in Canon Log 2 or Canon Log 3 using either Canon 709 or CMT 709 gamma for a more accurate representation of final color.
